The Golden Cross by Angela Elwell Hunt

Just like the last book in this series, I read this on my nook. Over all I enjoyed it because I felt like I was in the book walking along side it's characters and feeling what they feel. This is one thing I really like about Hunt's books, I always feel like I'm experiencing what I read. In my opinion, this can only be done by great authors. Also, I've noticed that every book in the series is about a girl who disguises herself as a man (so far anyway). I can only see this as a parallel to the beliefs of each girl that they wish to be able to do what a man can do. When in reality they can't physically, but they can spiritually because all rely on God.  I've also noticed that every book (so far) in the series ends with a kiss.

Plot: 4 Stars

The plot was original in my mind. There were somethings that repeated themselves from the last book (I think this was done on purpose), like the disguising as a man, having the man case after the woman in disguise because she's in danger and the kiss at the very end. But the way that she laid out the plot was original.

Characters: 4 Stars

I must say that the characters lived up to my expectations. And for this it will lose a star. When I read a book, I want the characters to meet my expectorations to a certain point and then stretch beyond them. Otherwise, the woman in this story was different then the woman before her from the first book of the series. I expect the woman in the next book to be distinctly different as well. Through this story the main character learns what it means to truly be a woman of God, and how much strength it really takes. Her doubts about her future are swept away when the book closes. (I love happy endings).

Action: 5 Stars

There was a lot of action in this story. Even if it wasn't violence type action, it was all the moving around type action that the characters did. In this book, the main character does a whole lot of moving from one place to another...frequently. I liked this. It put a nice spin on the whole thing.

Romance: 5 Stars

From what I've gathered so far, do not read this book and not expect half or all of it to revolve  around a romance. But it receives 5 stars because it wasn't inappropriate. There was a few times where the girl and the man where alone when she was disguised and he knew she was a woman, but other than that it was fine.

Length: 3 Stars

This was the weird part about the whole thing: for some reason I felt like it really dragged on. It has never taken me that long to finish a book that small. I lost interest at certain points of the book.

Overall: 4.5 Stars

I will be reading the last book of the series. I'm still interested in the last girl's story. This is always a good sign. I just hope that my interest is hooked through the whole thing. I also look forward to "being there" with the character again. I would (so far) recommend the series.

Comments are always welcome.
