Time for Another Book Tour!

About the book: A Reluctant Queen

An inspiring re-imagining of the tale of Esther, a young Jewish woman thrust from a life of obscurity into a life of power, wealth, intrigue . . . and tender love. See the story of Esther in an entirely new way-with all the political intrigue and tension you remember, but told as a passionate and tender love story between a young man and woman. Misunderstood by many, King Xerxes was a powerful but lonely man. Esther's beauty caught the eye of the young king, but it was her spirit that captured his heart. Imagine anew the story of Esther, one of our faith's great heroines, destined to play a key role in the history of Christianity. More here.

My Thoughts:

Wolf takes this story to a level of modernization that I don't appreciate much. But I don't fault her. It's hard to retell a story from generation to generation when every generation changes so drastically. This is one reason I like to tell people to go read the story from the bible first, before you read a retelling of it, if you've never read the original. Another thing I didn't really like is how sensual it was. There were times were I felt really uncomfortable. I suppose it was okay because Esther was with her husband, but still. I wouldn't give this book to my sibling. Other than that, I liked the book. It was fairly entertaining. I'm kind of biased with the story of Esther. It's one of my favorite And I like to read it over and over again. But I really don't think I'll pick up this book again. The plot was pretty close not including the creative writing privileges that were taken. And I think that the whole dismissal of Vashti was very nicely written. I know a lot of people have an opinion on Vashti and I liked how Wolf wrote it out. The ending was pretty good too. Don't worry I won't tell you. But I did like it. Stay tuned for a giveaway of my copy next week.
